LA County Inspection, Closure or Citation: Which Record Do You Need?

If you are checking a restaurant regulated by Los Angeles County Environmental Health, choose the county record by the question: Inspection Results for a dated inspection, Facility Closure List for a closure and reopening entry, or Administrative Citation and Closure List for a citation or critical-violation action. These are separate links on the Environmental Health public portal. Each view shows its own kind of event, and full reports may need a request.

How to search LA County Inspection Results

Open Inspection Results, select Food Facility (Restaurants/Markets) and enter the facility name, address, city or ZIP code. Match the street address before opening Inspections for the dated activity and Details for a particular visit. The county describes this view as covering currently active facilities and the past five years of inspection activity. Its visible result columns include the last routine inspection date and score; findings and later corrections are in the details or the report. The site’s LA County restaurant search guide covers the ordinary name-and-address lookup in more detail.

There is a consequential access limit. The county’s inspection-results guidance says restaurant and food-market inspection reports for visits on or after August 25, 2025 must be requested through a California Public Records Act (CPRA) request to Environmental Health. The live portal warning also includes mobile food facilities. A recent facility entry or score may therefore be visible while its full report needs a CPRA request.

Reading the LA County Facility Closure List

Use the Facility Closure List when the question is whether Environmental Health ordered a facility closed. Search by name, address, city or ZIP, and narrow to Food Facility (Restaurants/Markets) so pool results do not confuse the search. The list displays a description, Closed and Reopened fields, a reason and a Details link. Read both dates when present; a closure date alone leaves today’s status open. If a date, reason or reopening outcome is unclear, ask for the closure and later agency records rather than guessing from an empty field.

To trace a particular violation after the closure, use the reinspection and follow-up guide to match the original item with a later correction record. That comparison answers whether the item was addressed; the county’s closure and reopening records answer the separate question of the facility action.

The county says the public closure view covers active restaurants, food markets and swimming pools with closures in the past 100 days. That is the online display window, so older closures may still have agency records.

Reading the LA County Administrative Citation and Closure List

The Administrative Citation and Closure List describes facilities issued an administrative citation or closed due to critical violations. It accepts the same name, address, city or ZIP search, but its visible rows show Activity Date, Name, Address, City and Business Type. This list can contain housing, tobacco and other businesses. Confirm the restaurant’s identity and business type before connecting a row to a food inspection.

The county’s guidance describes a citation view for the past 100 days, although older entries can appear in the live list. Treat that description as guidance about the public display. The full citation, any challenge and the final decision are in separate records, as is the inspection report. Use the activity date and facility identifiers to request the specific document and any later disposition.

Requesting LA County inspection, closure and citation records

The county’s records instructions provide an Environmental Health Request for Records Form for official inspection reports, reinspection reports and permit copies. They direct other records, including complete or certified records, through the Custodian of Records’ CPRA form. Give the facility name, street address, event date or date range, and the exact record sought: for example, an August 2026 inspection report, a closure and reopening record, or an administrative citation and later decision. Environmental Health lists (626) 430-5300 and EH-PRArequests@ph.lacounty.gov for help with available records.

If an older event or underlying document is missing online, ask the county for that record. LA County Environmental Health pages checked September 29, 2026.
