Oregon Restaurant Inspection Scores: Where to Look and What a Score Below 70 Means

Oregon restaurant inspection reports are kept by the county health department that licenses the restaurant, under the Oregon Health Authority’s Food Sanitation Rules. Most counties let you search recent reports online for free. Licensed restaurants get unannounced semiannual inspections scored out of 100, and 70 is the line that matters: two semiannual scores below 70 in a row move a restaurant to quarterly inspections.

How Oregon restaurant scores work

A score starts at 100, and points come off for violations. Marion County describes the deductions as 5 points for each Priority item and 3 for each Priority Foundation item, with no deduction for Core items and extra points for an item repeated on consecutive inspections. Oregon has no letter grade. A score is for one dated routine inspection; reinspections that check specific corrections are often unscored.

County and state notes

Portland and Multnomah County

Portland restaurants are inspected by Multnomah County. Use the county’s current restaurant scores service, match the licensed facility by address, and connect the latest scored routine inspection to any later unscored reinspection. The searchable database keeps about one year of reports, so an older report missing from it may still exist. The county says qualifying serious items generally get 14 days for correction before the return visit, which checks those items rather than giving a new score. A food-cart pod or shared address can hold several separately licensed operations.

Multnomah County food carts, commissaries and warehouses

A Multnomah County food cart, its support kitchen and an off-unit warehouse can each have their own license and inspection record. Find the cart’s dated result first, then look up the commissary or warehouse by its own name and address rather than copying the cart’s score to them.

Deschutes County

Open the county’s Health Inspection Scores page and report portal. Compare the inspection purpose before the score: Semi-Annual, Reinspection, Additional Reinspection and Approved Alternative are different events, and a blank score on a reinspection is neither zero nor a failure.

When low scores bring quarterly inspections

Under OAR 333-157-0027 (OHA Food Sanitation Rules, January 1, 2026), two consecutive unannounced semiannual scores below 70 start increased inspections the next quarter: a complete unannounced quarterly inspection plus required rechecks. One later score of 70 or more does not end it; four consecutive qualifying scores of 70 or more restore the semiannual schedule. Build the sequence of complete inspections and targeted returns before reading the latest number.

Closure and the dismissal order

An Oregon closure starts with a signed reason statement attached to the inspection form and a posted closure notice (OAR 333-157-0030), and only the health authority removes the notice. It ends with a dismissal order, through either a correction recheck or a low-score plan. A later score is only part of the evidence that a restaurant reopened, so ask for the closure statement and the dismissal order.
